____________
If you’re praying for a prodigal… your problem isn’t that you’re weak.
It’s that you’re weary.
And I’m not speaking from theory.
I’m a prodigal parent too… and I’m still on the journey.
I’m not teaching from the other side of the miracle…
I’m teaching from the middle of the waiting.
I’m Lori Ann Moeszinger, and here at Guardians of Biblical Truth we stay anchored in Scripture—calm clarity, no hype, and daily steps that carry us through the waiting.
So if you need Hope with Handles…
keep watching.
____________
Real quick… before we answer our first question, I want you to know where we’re headed. This is Episode 1 of a four-part journey designed to help parents move from panic… to peace. Today, we’re beginning by asking…
“Parents Making It Worse? Here’s the Fix.”
Today we’ll discover the first step toward peace… and what God says to do before fear begins making decisions for us. Next time… we’ll look at why we need to stop saying, “Gone.” Because God’s pursuit of our children doesn’t end where ours does. Then we’ll confront one of the deepest burdens a parent can carry… blaming yourself. We’ll see what Scripture says about guilt… and what it says about grace.
And finally… we’ll learn how to stop losing our minds while we’re waiting… and begin finding peace that isn’t dependent on circumstances. Every episode builds on the one before it… so I encourage YOU to stay with the journey.
Now… let’s answer our first question.
____________
STEP 1 – Your Child Walked Away – Why This Hurts So Much
Let’s begin with the question many parents are afraid to say out loud:
Your Child Walked Away – Why does this hurt so much?
Why does it feel like a daily emergency when your child walks away from God?
And why does your heart react so strongly—even when you’re trying to stay calm?
First, I want you to know this:
Your pain does not mean you are weak.
It means you love deeply.
When someone you love is far from God, your heart feels the weight of it. That is not failure. That is grief.
Scripture shows us that parents have carried deep spiritual sorrow for their children for generations.
Listen to David’s cry over his son Absalom.
2 Samuel 18:33 KJV – “And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”
David was a king.
A warrior.
A man after God’s own heart.
And yet, when his son was lost, his heart broke like any parent’s heart would.
So if your child’s choices have left you weeping in private, you are not strange. You are not dramatic. You are not faithless. You are a parent carrying love and grief at the same time.
But here is where we have to be careful.
Pain is real.
But pain was never meant to become your master.
Fear has a way of taking parental love and turning it into panic. It whispers:
“If I say the perfect thing, maybe they’ll come back.”
“If I send one more text, maybe this will change.”
“If I can just explain it better, maybe they’ll finally understand.”
And suddenly, love starts behaving like control.
That is why we need God’s Word to steady us.
Psalm 55:22 KJV – “Cast your burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain you: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Notice what the verse does not say.
It does not say, “Pretend you don’t have a burden.”
It says, cast thy burden upon the Lord.
God is not asking you to deny the weight.
He is asking you to stop carrying it alone.
And then Jesus gives the same invitation with even more tenderness.
Matthew 11:28–30 KJV – “Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
That is the voice of Jesus to the weary parent.
Not, “Try harder.”
Not, “Fix them faster.”
Not, “Panic until something changes.”
He says, Come unto me.
Before you text.
Before you spiral.
Before you rehearse every mistake.
Before you make fear your counselor.
Come to Jesus.
So here is today’s first quick win:
When your child walks away from God, the first thing to stop is not loving them.
It is letting panic lead you.
Your love is not the problem.
Your panic is what needs to be surrendered.
So today, before we talk about what to say, what to do, or how to pray, we begin here:
“Lord, this hurts. But I will not let fear lead me.”
That is where peace begins.
Not when your child changes.
But when your burden moves from your hands…
into His.
____________
You know what’s interesting?
Three parents can be praying for prodigal children…
and carry completely different burdens.
Then there’s…
THE EXHAUSTED BELIEVER.
You’ve been praying…
for months.
Maybe years.
You’ve read the books.
Listened to the sermons.
Quoted the promises.
But some mornings…
you’re simply tired.
Not tired of loving your child.
Tired of carrying the weight.
And if that’s YOU…
I want you to hear this.
God never rebukes weary parents for bringing Him honest hearts.
He invites them to bring their burdens to Him.
Then there’s…
THE ENCOURAGER.
Everyone thinks you’re the strong one.
You’re the one reminding everyone else to trust God.
You’re the one saying,
“God is faithful.”
But when you’re alone…
your own heart quietly whispers,
“Lord… how much longer?”
If that’s YOU…
I want you to know…
even encouragers need encouragement.
You don’t have to pretend you’re always strong.
You can be honest with God.
He already knows.
And then…
there’s one of my favorite groups.
THE SILENT WATCHER.
You’ve never left a comment.
You’ve never shared your story.
Most people don’t even know you’re carrying this burden.
But every week…
you’re here.
Listening.
Searching the Scriptures.
Looking for one more reason…
not to give up.
And honestly…
I’m really glad you’re here.
Because this lane was built for people who don’t always know who they can talk to.
Here’s what every one of those parents has in common.
The exhausted believer.
The encourager.
The silent watcher.
None of them are weak.
They’re carrying something heavy.
And that’s exactly why Jesus says,
“Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
The first step toward peace…
isn’t pretending the burden doesn’t exist.
It’s finally bringing the burden…
to the One who promised to carry it with you.
____________
Now that we understand why this hurts so much, the next question becomes…
What do we do when fear starts making our decisions?
Because panic has a way of convincing us that we must act immediately.
So next, let’s open the Scriptures and discover how to stop the panic spiral before it begins leading our hearts instead of God.
____________
STEP 2 – Your Child Walked Away – Stop the Panic Spiral
If you’ve ever had a child walk away from God…
you know what panic feels like.
It usually doesn’t arrive all at once.
It starts with one fearful thought.
“What if they never come home?”
Then another.
“What if I missed my chance?”
Then another.
“What if I say the wrong thing?”
Before long, your mind begins racing ahead of reality.
The problem isn’t that you love your child too much.
The problem is that fear quietly begins taking the driver’s seat.
God understands exactly how fear affects us.
That’s why His Word repeatedly calls us back to trust.
Listen to what Paul writes.
Philippians 4:6–7 KJV – “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
The phrase “Be careful for nothing” doesn’t mean, “Don’t care.”
In the language of the King James Bible, it means:
Don’t be consumed with anxious care.
God isn’t rebuking your love.
He’s inviting you to release your anxiety.
Notice the order.
He doesn’t promise that your circumstances will immediately change.
He promises that your heart and your mind can be guarded by His peace.
That’s important.
Because panic attacks the mind first.
It imagines conversations that haven’t happened.
It predicts outcomes that haven’t occurred.
It assumes tomorrow before tomorrow arrives.
Jesus spoke directly to that tendency.
Matthew 6:34 KJV – “Take therefore no thought for the tomorrow: for the tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Jesus wasn’t teaching us to ignore tomorrow.
He was teaching us not to live in tomorrow before it comes.
Fear constantly asks,
“What if?”
Faith asks,
“What does God say today?”
That’s a very different question.
Peter also knew what it was like to carry overwhelming burdens.
Listen to his encouragement.
1 Peter 5:6–7 KJV – “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.”
Why can we cast our care upon Him?
Because He cares for you.
Not because you’ve handled everything perfectly.
Not because you’ve always known the right words to say.
Simply because He loves you.
Sometimes parents believe that worrying proves how much they love their child.
But worry and love are not the same thing.
Love trusts God enough to keep praying.
Panic believes everything depends on us.
That’s an exhausting way to live.
Here’s the truth that changed my own perspective:
Your panic has never rescued your child.
But God’s peace can rescue your heart.
That doesn’t mean you stop caring.
It means you stop allowing fear to become your counselor.
So here’s today’s practical step.
The next time panic begins racing through your mind…
pause before reacting.
Ask yourself one simple question:
“Am I responding to what God has said… or to what fear is imagining?”
That one question has the power to interrupt the panic spiral.
Because peace begins the moment we choose to let God’s voice become louder than our fears.
____________
Have you noticed something?
Panic doesn’t usually shout.
It whispers.
One fearful thought becomes another…
until suddenly it feels like your mind is running faster than your faith.
Then there’s…
THE ANXIOUS WATCHER.
You replay every conversation.
Every decision.
Every unanswered phone call.
You aren’t trying to be fearful.
You simply love your child so deeply that your heart never seems to rest.
Friend…
God sees that.
And He isn’t asking you to stop loving your child.
He’s inviting you to stop carrying tomorrow before it arrives.
Then there’s…
THE QUESTIONER.
Your mind keeps asking,
“Should I call?”
“Should I wait?”
“Did I miss something?”
Those are honest questions.
But don’t let unanswered questions become an open door for fear.
When Scripture hasn’t spoken, don’t let panic write the ending to the story.
Then there’s…
THE ISOLATED REMNANT BELIEVER.
Sometimes it feels like no one around you understands.
You carry this burden quietly.
You smile at church.
You answer,
“I’m doing okay.”
But inside…
your heart is tired.
Please hear this today.
You are not carrying this burden alone.
The Lord has never stepped away from your family.
And He has not stepped away from you.
The anxious watcher…
The questioner…
The isolated remnant believer…
Each one is tempted to believe fear has the final word.
It doesn’t.
God does.
And His first gift to the weary parent…
isn’t always an immediate change in circumstances.
Sometimes…
it’s the quiet peace that reminds you,
“I am still with you.”
One Practical Step
The next time fear begins to spiral…
stop for sixty seconds.
Take one slow breath.
Read Philippians 4:6–7 aloud.
Then ask:
“Lord, what is true right now?”
Let God’s truth answer before fear does.
____________
Once panic begins to settle…
our thinking becomes much clearer.
But fear still has one more tactic.
It convinces us the worst-case scenario is already inevitable.
So next, let’s learn how to separate fear from facts and anchor our hearts in what God says is true.
____________
STEP 3 – Your Child Walked Away – Separate Fear from Facts
By now, we’ve discovered something important.
Pain is real.
Panic is real.
But neither one is a reliable guide.
Fear has a habit of turning possibilities into certainties.
It whispers,
“They’ll never come back.”
“God must be finished with them.”
“You’ve already failed.”
The problem is…
fear often speaks louder than facts.
So how do we separate the two?
We begin by asking,
“What has God actually said?”
Listen to the wisdom of Solomon.
Proverbs 3:5–6 KJV – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Notice those words:
“Lean not unto thine own understanding.”
That doesn’t mean our emotions are wrong.
It means our emotions don’t always tell the whole story.
When your child walks away from God…
your heart naturally fills in the blanks.
A missed phone call becomes rejection.
A long silence becomes hopelessness.
One bad decision becomes,
“My child will never come home.”
But those are conclusions…
not facts.
The Bible teaches us to anchor ourselves somewhere stronger than our emotions.
Paul writes:
2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV – “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”
Think about that.
Parents often walk by what they see.
“I see rebellion.”
“I see distance.”
“I see no change.”
Faith doesn’t deny those realities.
Faith simply refuses to believe they are the whole story.
Because God is always working in places we cannot yet see.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us of God’s perspective.
Isaiah 55:8–9 KJV – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
There are conversations God is having with your child that you may never witness.
There are convictions the Holy Spirit may already be planting that you cannot yet see.
There are prayers God is answering in ways that remain invisible today.
Fear says,
“Nothing is happening.”
Faith says,
“God may be working where I cannot see.”
Those are two very different conclusions.
Then Paul gives us a practical way to deal with fearful thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV – “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
Notice that word:
Imaginations.
Fear often begins with imagination.
It imagines the worst.
It writes tomorrow’s story before tomorrow arrives.
God calls us to examine those thoughts.
Not every thought deserves our agreement.
Some thoughts need to be surrendered.
Some need to be replaced with truth.
So here’s today’s practical step.
The next time fear tells you,
“It’s hopeless.”
Ask yourself,
“Is this something I know… or something I’m imagining?”
Then open God’s Word.
Because peace grows when facts are rooted in Scripture…
instead of assumptions rooted in fear.
____________
One of the hardest things about loving a prodigal…
is that silence leaves room for imagination.
And imagination rarely writes hopeful stories.
Then there’s…
THE DEBATE WATCHER.
You want answers.
You study.
You compare ideas.
There’s nothing wrong with learning.
But eventually…
every opinion has to be measured against God’s Word.
Because peace isn’t found in having every answer.
It’s found in trusting the One who does.
Then there’s…
THE SKEPTICAL OBSERVER.
You’ve been disappointed.
Maybe by people.
Maybe by churches.
Maybe by unanswered prayers.
So when someone says,
“Just have faith,”
it feels too simple.
Friend…
biblical faith isn’t pretending everything is fine.
It’s choosing to believe God’s character…
even when you don’t yet understand His timing.
Then there’s…
THE RETURNING BELIEVER.
This season has driven you back to God.
Not because everything has been restored.
But because you’ve realized He’s the only place where your heart can truly rest.
Sometimes God uses the deepest pain…
to draw us into the deepest dependence.
The DEBATE WATCHER…
The SKEPTICAL OBSERVER…
The RETURNING BELIEVER…
Each one faces the same choice.
Will I believe what fear keeps imagining…
or will I believe what God has spoken?
That’s the turning point.
Because facts grounded in God’s Word…
will always outlast feelings driven by fear.
One Practical Step
Take a sheet of paper today.
Draw two columns.
Label one:
“Fear Says…”
Label the other:
“God Says…”
Write down one fearful thought.
Then find one Scripture that speaks God’s truth into it.
Don’t argue with fear.
Replace it with truth.
____________
When fear no longer controls our thinking…
our hearts become ready for something beautiful.
Jesus never asked us to carry these burdens alone.
So next, let’s discover what it really means to give your burden to Jesus—and find rest for your weary soul.
____________
STORY OF AWAKENING
Can I tell YOU about someone?
In the heart of a teeming metropolis, Susan, a 42-year-old nurse, faced her dragon every night. Her dragon wasn’t a fearsome beast breathing fire but the creeping shadows of her own past mistakes that seemed to darken her world. Despite the white uniform she donned—a symbol of purity and healing—she couldn’t cleanse her conscience of the guilt that had been accumulating like the silent buildup of dust in an abandoned room.
Susan’s authentic emotion was remorse. A kind and dedicated nurse, she saved lives at the hospital, but back at home, she couldn’t save herself from the regret that gnawed at her during the long, sleepless nights. It wasn’t one monumental misstep but a series of small, seemingly insignificant choices that spiraled into a sense of personal failure. No amount of accolades could mute the inner voice that whispered accusations in her ears.
The moment of change was subtle yet significant. During a routine shift, she washed her hands at the sink, the water spiraling down the drain like her spiraling thoughts. But as she looked up, she met the gaze of a patient in the reflection of the mirror—a woman who had just received forgiveness from a family she had wronged. The patient’s eyes were bright with unshed tears, but her smile was free and unburdened. Susan felt a profound shift within her. It was as if she was seeing the patient’s soul lightened from the weight of guilt through the power of forgiveness.
The specific details of that moment—the coolness of the water on her hands, the flickering fluorescent light above, the distant sound of a beeping heart monitor—forever marked the turning point in Susan’s life. It was her encounter with the deep personal meaning of repentance and confession. She realized then that the way forward wasn’t to hide from her guilt but to face it, to voice it, and to find release.
Returning home, Susan sought the solace of the Bible, and the verses she once found cliché now held a profound truth. “Repent; then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out,” Acts 3:19 beckoned. She understood that her profession was her sword, her calling to heal, but it was through the acts of repentance and confession that she would slay her personal dragons.
Through repentance and confession, Susan’s life was not just changed; it was transformed. Her journey became a testament to the promise of Psalm 32:5, “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity.” Her story resonated with anyone haunted by the shadows of their past, offering hope that through repentance and confession, there’s a path to forgiveness and a new beginning.
Susan’s story, laden with authentic emotion, a pivotal moment of realization, and the tangible details of her life, tells others, “I understand the burden of guilt, but there is a way to redemption, and it is open to all.” It’s a story that says to the audience. “This could be you, and the peace found in this journey can also be yours.
____________
Maybe today’s Story of Awakening wasn’t actually for YOU.
Maybe…
it was for the parent God quietly placed on YOUR heart.
The mom…
who cries after everyone else has gone to bed…
because she doesn’t know where her daughter is anymore.
The dad…
who checks his phone every night…
hoping today will be the day his son finally calls.
The grandparent…
who quietly prays for grandchildren…
they barely get to see.
The husband or wife…
trying to stay strong…
while watching someone they love slowly lose hope.
Did someone come to mind?
Because if they did…
maybe today’s conversation wasn’t only meant to encourage YOU.
Maybe God wants to encourage them too.
If someone came to mind while hearing Susan’s story…
send them this video.
You never know how God might use…
one conversation…
one Scripture…
or one reminder…
to strengthen a weary parent’s heart.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone…
isn’t another answer.
It’s simply reminding them…
that they’re not walking through the waiting alone.
And maybe today…
your share button…
becomes part of someone else’s restoration.
____________
STEP 4 – Give Your Burden to Jesus
By now we’ve discovered something important.
You were never meant to carry this burden by yourself.
The love you have for your child is a gift from God.
But the weight you’ve been carrying…
was never meant to rest on your shoulders alone.
That’s why Jesus extends one of the most compassionate invitations in all of Scripture.
Notice who Jesus is speaking to.
Those who are weary.
Those carrying heavy burdens.
Those who have reached the end of their own strength.
Perhaps that’s exactly where you are today.
You’ve tried fixing.
Explaining.
Reasoning.
Praying.
Waiting.
And your heart is tired.
Jesus doesn’t begin by telling you to work harder.
He begins with one simple invitation:
“Come unto me.”
Not after everything is fixed.
Not after your child comes home.
Now.
Just as you are.
David understood this invitation long before Jesus walked the earth.
He wrote,
Psalm 55:22 KJV – “Cast your burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain you: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Notice the action.
Cast thy burden.
Not hide it.
Not ignore it.
Not pretend it doesn’t hurt.
Cast it.
The word paints the picture of deliberately placing a heavy load onto Someone stronger than yourself.
Many parents pray for their prodigal…
but continue carrying the burden as though everything depends on them.
They pray…
then immediately pick the burden back up again.
Friend…
that’s not surrender.
Surrender means trusting God with what only God can do.
Peter echoes David’s words.
1 Peter 5:6–7 KJV – “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.”
Why can we cast every care upon Him?
Because He cares for you.
Not because you’ve been the perfect parent.
Not because you’ve never made mistakes.
Not because you’ve prayed perfectly.
Simply because He loves you.
And He loves your child even more than you do.
That’s one of the hardest truths for a parent to accept.
We often believe we’re carrying the greatest burden in the room.
But before your son was your son…
he was God’s creation.
Before your daughter was your daughter…
she was known by the Lord.
God’s love for your child has never stopped.
Even when you cannot see Him working.
Even when heaven feels silent.
Even when your heart is breaking.
Giving your burden to Jesus doesn’t mean you stop praying.
It doesn’t mean you stop loving.
It doesn’t mean you stop hoping.
It means you stop believing that the future of your child rests entirely in your hands.
It never did.
So here’s today’s practical step.
The next time your heart begins carrying tomorrow’s weight…
pause.
Open your hands.
Literally, if it helps.
And pray,
“Lord, this burden is too heavy for me. Today, I place it into Your hands because I trust that You care for both me… and my child.”
That’s not giving up.
That’s giving it to God.
And there is a profound difference.
____________
One of the most difficult lessons for any parent…
is learning the difference between carrying your child…
and carrying responsibility that belongs to God.
Then there’s…
THE HUNGRY DISCIPLE.
You genuinely want to obey God.
You’re asking,
“Lord… what does faithfulness look like while I wait?”
That’s a beautiful question.
Because faithful parents don’t control outcomes.
They faithfully surrender each day to the Lord who does.
Then there’s…
THE PROPHECY BURNOUT VIEWER.
You’ve spent so much time watching what’s happening in the world…
that you’ve forgotten to bring your own heart before the Lord.
This season isn’t asking you to predict tomorrow.
It’s inviting you to trust the God who already holds tomorrow.
Sometimes the greatest act of faith…
is turning off the noise…
and opening God’s Word.
And perhaps today…
you’re THE SEEKER.
Not because you’re searching for another parenting strategy.
But because you’re searching for peace.
Please hear this.
Peace isn’t found when all your questions are answered.
Peace is found when your burden changes shoulders.
When it moves…
from yours…
to Christ’s.
The hungry disciple…
the prophecy burnout viewer…
and the seeker…
are all learning the same lesson.
Jesus never asked us to carry what only He can carry.
He simply asked us to come.
To trust.
To surrender.
Because that’s where weary hearts finally begin to rest.
One Practical Step
Before you go to bed tonight…
hold your hands open before the Lord.
Name your burden.
Name your child.
Then pray Psalm 55:22 aloud.
Don’t rush.
Don’t solve.
Simply surrender.
Sometimes the holiest thing a parent can do…
is place the burden back into the hands of God.
____________
Once we learn to place our burden into Jesus’ hands…
something beautiful begins to happen.
Peace quietly takes the place of panic.
So let’s finish today’s journey by discovering how to find peace while you wait—even before your prodigal comes home.
____________
STEP 5 – Finding Peace While You Wait
As we finish today’s journey,
I want to leave you with one truth that has carried believers through every generation.
Waiting is not wasted.
If you’re praying for a prodigal…
it may feel like your life has been put on hold.
You tell yourself,
“I’ll have peace when my son comes home.”
“I’ll have joy when my daughter returns to God.”
“I’ll finally rest when everything is okay again.”
But Scripture teaches us something different.
God doesn’t ask us to wait without Him.
He invites us to wait with Him.
Listen to the prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah 40:31 KJV – “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Notice what the verse does not say.
It doesn’t promise that waiting will always be easy.
It promises that God will renew the strength of those who wait upon Him.
Waiting in the Bible is never passive.
It is active trust.
It is choosing, day after day, to place your confidence in God’s character even when you cannot yet see God’s answer.
David understood this.
He wrote in Psalm:
Psalm 27:13–14 KJV – “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
I love David’s honesty.
“I had fainted…”
He isn’t pretending to be fearless.
He admits there were moments when his strength was almost gone.
Yet he chose to believe that God’s goodness was still ahead of him.
That’s biblical hope.
Hope isn’t pretending everything is fine.
Hope is trusting God when everything isn’t.
Then Paul reminds us where lasting peace comes from.
Romans 15:13 KJV – “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Notice something beautiful.
Paul doesn’t say,
“May God fill you with peace when your circumstances improve.”
He says,
“…peace in believing.”
Peace grows as we continue trusting Him.
That means your peace does not have to wait until your prodigal comes home.
Your circumstances may still be painful.
Your prayers may still be unanswered.
But your heart can still become anchored in Christ.
Because your hope was never meant to rest in an outcome.
Your hope rests in the God who never changes.
So here’s today’s final step.
Wake up each morning asking,
“Lord, how can I walk faithfully with You today?”
Not,
“Will everything be fixed today?”
One question looks for control.
The other looks for Christ.
And one day, you’ll discover something remarkable.
While you’ve been waiting for God to work in your prodigal…
God has also been faithfully working in you.
Sometimes the greatest miracle He performs first…
is the quiet transformation of a parent’s heart.
____________
One of the hardest parts of this journey…
is that waiting has no calendar.
No one can tell you,
“Three more weeks.”
“Six more months.”
“Next spring.”
Waiting asks us to trust God one day at a time.
Then there’s…
THE RETURNING BELIEVER.
This season has brought you back to the Lord.
Not because your circumstances became easier…
but because you discovered you couldn’t carry them alone.
Sometimes restoration begins in the parent’s heart…
long before it appears in the child’s life.
Then there’s…
THE LUKEWARM CHRISTIAN WAKING UP.
You never expected this painful season to become an invitation.
But somewhere along the way…
God began drawing you closer to Himself.
Not through comfort.
Through dependence.
And today you’re realizing…
the greatest gift God may be giving you isn’t only hope for your prodigal.
It’s a deeper walk with Him.
And perhaps today…
you’re THE SEEKER.
When this episode began…
you came looking for a way to help your child.
I hope you’ve also discovered something unexpected.
God wants to help you.
He wants to steady your heart.
Renew your strength.
Restore your hope.
Because He loves your prodigal…
and He loves the parent who’s been faithfully praying.
Whether you’re the returning believer…
the lukewarm Christian waking up…
or the seeker…
the invitation is the same.
Keep walking with Jesus.
One day.
One prayer.
One act of trust.
Because waiting with God…
is never wasted.
One Practical Step
This week…
replace one fearful question with one faithful prayer.
Instead of asking,
“What if nothing changes?”
Pray,
“Lord, help me trust You faithfully today.”
Then leave tomorrow in His hands.
That’s how peace grows—
one surrendered day at a time.
____________
Today we’ve moved from panic toward peace.
Before we close, I’d love to leave you with one final gift—
a simple 60-Second Calm-Down Prayer you can return to whenever fear begins rising again, reminding your heart that God is still present, still faithful, and still at work.
____________
TODAY’S TOOLKIT – 60-Second Calm-Down Prayer
Before we finish today’s lesson…
it’s time for Today’s Toolkit.
I’d like to ask you to do something with me.
Not tomorrow.
Not later today.
Right now.
If you can…
take a slow, deep breath.
Unclench your hands.
Relax your shoulders.
And if you’re comfortable…
open your hands before the Lord.
Not because there’s anything special about the position of your hands…
but because it’s a simple reminder that we’re choosing to release what we’ve been holding so tightly.
Now…
pray with me.
“Father…
You know exactly where my son… or my daughter… is today.
Nothing about their life is hidden from You.
You love them even more than I do.
Today I choose to release my fear…
my panic…
my guilt…
and my need to control what only You can change.
Your Word says, ‘Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee.’
So today…
I place my burden into Your hands.
Strengthen my heart.
Guard my mind.
Help me love my child well…
without allowing fear to lead me.
Teach me to trust You one day at a time.
In Jesus’ name…
Amen.”
Friend…
this isn’t a prayer you’ll pray only once.
It’s a prayer you’ll probably pray many times.
Some days…
more than once.
Because peace isn’t something we achieve.
It’s something we keep receiving as we continue bringing our burdens back to Jesus.
So this week…
every time fear begins rising again…
don’t argue with it.
Don’t feed it.
Don’t let it write tomorrow’s story.
Simply stop…
take one deep breath…
open your hands…
and pray again.
Because every time you place your burden back into God’s hands…
you’re reminding your heart…
that it was never yours to carry alone.
Before we move on…
I’d like to leave you with one thought.
Remember this…
Peace begins when you stop carrying what only God can carry and start trusting the One who loves your child even more than you do.
____________
Before we wrap…
If today’s message strengthened YOUR confidence in Christ…
comment “READY.”
I read those comments every week,
and I love seeing believers encourage one another.
And before YOU leave…
tell me one step YOU’RE going to take this week.
Maybe it’s opening your Bible tomorrow morning.
Maybe it’s talking with Jesus for the first time in a long time.
Maybe it’s sharing the Gospel with someone.
Or maybe it’s simply choosing obedience in one area of YOUR life.
Because here at Guardians of Biblical Truth…
we believe Scripture becomes transformation one step at a time.
____________
WRAP UP – From Panic to Peace
As we come to the end of today’s journey…
let’s remember where we began.
You asked one heartfelt question:
“My child walked away from God… what do I do first?”
Today, God’s Word reminded us that the first step isn’t chasing your child.
The first step is bringing your own heart to Jesus.
We discovered why this hurts so deeply…
how panic quietly takes over…
how to separate fear from facts…
how to place your burden into the Lord’s hands…
and how to begin finding peace, even while you’re still waiting.
So here’s your one takeaway this week:
Don’t let fear become your counselor.
When panic begins to rise…
pause.
Open your hands.
Remember God’s promises.
Then place your burden back into the hands of the One who loves your child even more than you do.
Because peace doesn’t begin when your circumstances finally change.
Peace begins when your heart learns to trust the unchanging character of God.
And if you’re still waiting today…
I want you to know something.
So am I.
That’s why we’re taking this journey together.
One prayer…
one promise…
one faithful day…
at a time.
Until next time…
keep your eyes on Jesus,
keep your heart anchored in His Word,
and never stop believing that God is still at work—even when you cannot yet see it.
____________
WHERE WE GO NEXT
Now let me show YOU where we’re headed next.
This wheel is our journey…
from fear…
to faithful hope.
Today we completed the first spoke:
When Your Child Walks Away.
Next time…
we’re going to answer one of the hardest questions every parent asks:
“What if they look completely gone?”
When the phone stops ringing…
when years begin passing…
when hope feels harder to hold…
it’s easy to wonder whether God is still pursuing your child.
Together we’ll open the Scriptures…
and discover that “far from God”…
does not mean “forgotten by God.”
Because the Shepherd…
still searches for lost sheep.
And God’s love…
has never been limited by distance.
Every spoke builds on the one before it.
One prayer.
One month.
One promise at a time.
Because restoration is rarely instant…
but God is always faithful.
So if today you’re still waiting…
don’t lose heart.
Keep bringing your burden to Jesus.
Keep standing on His Word.
Keep praying with hope instead of panic.
Because while you’re waiting for God to work in your prodigal…
He’s faithfully working in you.
And that’s where restoration begins.

GUARDIANS OF BIBLICAL TRUTH FORUM
This was a lot to take in…
And honestly…
it’s only the beginning.
Around here, we believe in Hope with Handles—
hope YOU can actually hold onto,
one faithful step at a time.
Because faith isn’t just something we believe…
it’s something we live.
____________
SCRIPTURE · STORY · STEP
That’s why we follow one simple rhythm:
SCRIPTURE • STORY • STEP.
Scripture tells us what God says.
Story helps God’s truth become personal.
Step is where faith becomes the way YOU actually live.
Because every checkpoint moves YOU from awareness to obedience, from belief to readiness, from saying “Amen” to living “Here I am, Lord.”
And that’s the journey we’re taking together.
One Scripture.
One Story.
One Step.
At a time.

PRAYER OF FAITH
Before we go… if you don’t know Jesus,
or if you’ve drifted far from Him
and you want to come home…
pray this with me.
Father, in Jesus’ name,
Thank You for Your Word. Help us not just hear it – but obey it. Forgive us. Cleanse us. We repent, and we turn from sin back to You. Strengthen every weary parent watching. Hold them up in the waiting, and guard their heart from despair. Lord, reach our prodigals – wherever they are – convict them, protect them, and draw them home. Renew our minds, fill us with Your Spirit, and make us steady – without fear and without compromise. We give You our yes.
Amen.
