Hey friend…
Have you ever wondered how to build a daily Bible reading and prayer habit that actually draws you closer to God?
Maybe that’s exactly why you clicked this video.
You don’t want another Bible reading plan that lasts three days.
You want a simple daily rhythm that helps you know Jesus more deeply.
If that’s where you are… you’re in the right place.
By the end of today’s episode, you’ll have a practical, biblical habit you can begin tomorrow morning—one that helps you spend time with God consistently and draws you closer to Him every single day.
____________
Daily Bible Reading and Prayer: A Habit That Draws You Closer to God
Let’s open our Bibles together.
Today, we’re going to build something that can quietly change every morning for the rest of your life.
STEP 1 – Stop Making Time with God So Complicated
STEP 2 – Who Gets the First Five Minutes of Your Morning?
STEP 3 – God Never Asked You to Read Alone
STEP 4 – Don’t Trust Your Memory – Trust Your Journal
STEP 5 – One Small Step Is Better Than One More Chapter
We’ll begin by discovering why spending time with God doesn’t have to be so complicated. Then we’ll learn how the first few minutes of your morning can shape everything that follows. Next, I’ll show you why Bible reading was never meant to be a one-way activity—it was always meant to become a conversation.
After that, we’ll talk about one simple habit that has completely changed the way I remember what God teaches me. And we’ll finish by learning why one small act of obedience will always take you farther than reading one more chapter.
By the end of today’s journey, you’ll have a simple daily rhythm you can begin tomorrow morning—one that helps you spend time with Jesus consistently and draws you closer to Him, one day at a time.
____________
And stay with me to the end because Today’s Toolkit is the exact Bible study method I’ve used for years to turn Bible reading into a daily conversation with God.
It’s simple, practical, and something you can begin using tomorrow morning.
TODAY’S TOOLKIT / The New Narrated Study Bible (NNSB) Method
And if YOU’VE never trusted Jesus –
or you’re ready to come home to Him – we’ll pray together before YOU go.
____________
This is Guardians of Biblical Truth – your pathway to readiness for the return of Christ.
____________
I’ve learned something over the years…
The believers who stay close to Jesus aren’t usually the ones with the most Bible knowledge.
They’re the ones who simply keep showing up, day after day.
That lesson changed my own life.
I discovered that real spiritual growth isn’t built on dramatic moments—it grows through quiet mornings with God, one day at a time.
I’m Lori Ann Moeszinger, and this is Guardians of Biblical Truth, where we open God’s Word together and learn to walk with Jesus—one simple step at a time.
So if you want to know what the Bible really says…
keep watching.
____________
Real quick, before we begin our first step, I want you to know where we’re headed.
This is Episode 1 of a four-part journey designed to help you build daily Kingdom habits that last. Today, we’ll begin by building a simple habit of daily Bible reading and prayer that draws you closer to God.
In Episode 2, we’ll discover why God never intended you to walk this journey alone—and how biblical community helps your faith grow stronger.
Then in Episode 3, we’ll learn how one simple act of daily obedience moves God’s Word from your head into your life.
And we’ll finish in Episode 4 by discovering how God can use one ordinary conversation to begin multiplying His work through you.
Each episode builds on the one before it, so I encourage YOU to stay with the journey.
Now…
let’s begin with our first step.
____________
STEP 1 – Stop Making Time with God So Complicated
So let’s begin with our very first step…
Stop Making Time with God So Complicated.
Can I ask you a question?
Who told us that spending time with God had to be so complicated?
Honestly…
somewhere along the way, I think many of us started believing we needed the perfect morning…
the perfect Bible…
the perfect journal…
an uninterrupted hour…
and somehow, if we couldn’t do all of that…
we convinced ourselves it wasn’t worth doing anything.
Can I encourage you?
I don’t think Jesus ever intended for it to feel that way.
When I read the Gospels…
I don’t see Jesus making it harder for people to come to Him.
I see Him making it easier.
Listen to His invitation.
Matthew 11:28–30 – “Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
I love that.
Jesus didn’t say,
“Come back after you’ve figured everything out.”
He didn’t say,
“Come back when you’re more disciplined.”
He didn’t say,
“Come back when you’ve finally kept your Bible reading plan.”
He simply said…
Come.
Isn’t that beautiful?
The invitation comes before the transformation.
And honestly…
I think that’s where many of us get stuck.
We believe we have to change first…
before we can come close to Jesus.
But Scripture says the exact opposite.
We come close to Jesus…
and He begins changing us.
Now let me show you another picture that I absolutely love.
It’s the story of Mary and Martha.
One sister was busy doing everything.
The other was simply sitting with Jesus.
Listen to what Jesus says.
Luke 10:41–42 – “And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, you are careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Can I ask you another question?
What if the “one thing” Jesus was talking about…
wasn’t another task…
but His presence?
Notice…
Jesus didn’t tell Martha to stop loving Him.
He invited her to stop carrying so much.
There’s a difference.
Sometimes we make our relationship with God look more like another item on our to-do list…
when Jesus simply wants us to sit down with Him.
One verse.
One prayer.
One conversation.
That’s where relationships grow.
The psalmist says it this way.
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God…”
Be still.
Not because God needs your silence…
but because sometimes we need the quiet long enough to hear His heart.
And honestly…
that’s today’s quick win.
Tomorrow morning…
don’t worry about reading five chapters.
Don’t worry about catching up because you missed yesterday.
Don’t worry about having the perfect quiet time.
Just sit down.
Open your Bible.
Read a few verses.
Talk to Jesus about what you just read.
Then sit quietly for a minute.
That’s enough.
Because you’re not checking off another religious assignment.
You’re spending time with Someone who loves you.
James gives us this beautiful promise.
James 4:8 – “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you…”
I love that verse because it reminds me that God isn’t playing hide-and-seek.
He’s not waiting for you to become the perfect Christian before He welcomes you.
He’s simply inviting you…
to draw near.
One morning.
One conversation.
One simple step at a time.
And I think that’s exactly where a daily habit begins.
Not by making time with God more complicated…
but by making room for Jesus.
Tomorrow morning…
just come.
And the next morning…
come again.
____________
Can I share something I’ve noticed over the years?
Most people don’t drift away from spending time with God because they stopped loving Him.
They drift because life slowly became louder than the invitation.
One busy morning turns into another.
A missed Bible reading plan becomes two weeks.
Before long, the enemy begins whispering, “You’re so far behind… why even try?”
Can I encourage you?
That isn’t the voice of Jesus.
Jesus never shamed people into coming to Him.
He invited them.
That’s why I want to pause for just a moment and speak directly to a few friends who may be watching today.
THE RETURNING BELIEVER
Maybe you’ve been away from God for a while.
Not because you stopped believing…
but because life happened.
Maybe it was disappointment.
Maybe it was grief.
Maybe it was simply exhaustion.
And now you’re wondering if you’ve waited too long.
Friend…
you haven’t.
God isn’t standing at the door with folded arms asking where you’ve been.
He’s standing with open arms saying,
“Come.”
Don’t worry about yesterday.
Start with today.
THE EXHAUSTED BELIEVER
Maybe you haven’t walked away from God at all.
You’re just tired.
You’ve been carrying responsibilities that no one else even sees.
You love Jesus.
You pray while driving.
You whisper prayers while folding laundry.
But you’ve convinced yourself that because your quiet time isn’t an hour long… somehow it doesn’t count.
Can I encourage you?
Five undistracted minutes with Jesus are infinitely better than sixty distracted ones.
God isn’t measuring the clock.
He’s welcoming your heart.
THE HUNGRY DISCIPLE
And maybe you’re the hungry disciple.
You’re eager to grow.
You underline verses.
You ask questions.
You want to understand Scripture more deeply.
I love that.
But don’t ever let the pursuit of knowledge replace the joy of knowing Jesus.
The goal isn’t to finish another chapter.
The goal is to leave the table knowing Him better than you did when you sat down.
Three different stories.
Three different seasons of life.
One invitation.
Come.
Whether you’re returning…
whether you’re exhausted…
or whether you’re hungry for more…
Jesus doesn’t ask you to bring perfection.
He simply asks you to bring yourself.
So tomorrow morning…
before you worry about how much you should read…
or whether you’ve fallen behind…
just sit down.
Open your Bible.
Read a few verses.
Talk with Jesus.
Let Him love you where you are.
Because every lasting habit begins the same way—
not with pressure…
but with one simple “yes” to His invitation.
____________
Now that we’ve removed the pressure to have the “perfect” quiet time, let’s answer the next practical question.
If spending time with God can really be this simple…
where do we begin?
Let’s talk about the first five minutes of your morning.
____________
STEP 2 – Who Gets the First Five Minutes of Your Morning?
Can I ask you something?
Who gets the first five minutes of your morning?
I know… it sounds like such a simple question.
But honestly?
The answer to that one question often shapes the rest of our day.
Think about it.
Before our feet even hit the floor, many of us reach for our phones.
We check our messages.
We scroll through the headlines.
We glance at social media.
We immediately fill our minds with everyone else’s thoughts before we’ve spent even one moment with the One who created us.
Can I encourage you?
What if we simply reversed that order?
What if, before we listened to the world…
we listened to God?
King David understood something about beginning the day with the Lord.
Listen to what he wrote.
Psalm 5:3 – “My voice shalt you hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto you, and will look up.”
I love that picture.
David didn’t begin his morning by looking around.
He began by looking up.
Isn’t that beautiful?
Before the responsibilities…
before the decisions…
before the distractions…
he turned his heart toward God.
Now, does that mean every morning has to look exactly the same?
Not at all.
Some mornings are quiet.
Some mornings are busy.
Some mornings life happens before you’ve even poured your first cup of coffee.
God understands that.
This isn’t about creating another rule.
It’s about establishing a relationship.
It’s about deciding who gets your first attention.
Jesus modeled this for us.
Mark 1:35 – “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
Can I point out something?
The verse doesn’t say Jesus prayed because He had nothing else to do.
Quite the opposite.
Crowds were waiting.
People needed healing.
The disciples were looking for Him.
His schedule was full.
Yet before He met the demands of people…
He met with His Father.
That has always challenged me.
Sometimes we tell ourselves,
“I’ll spend time with God after everything else is finished.”
But let’s be honest…
everything else is never finished.
There will always be another email.
Another load of laundry.
Another appointment.
Another responsibility.
If we wait until life becomes quiet…
we may wait forever.
Jesus teaches us something different.
He shows us that meeting with the Father isn’t what we fit into our schedule.
It’s what prepares us for our schedule.
Proverbs gives us another beautiful reminder.
Proverbs 3:5–6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Did you catch those words?
“In all thy ways acknowledge him…”
That begins first thing in the morning.
Not because God is keeping attendance.
But because our hearts naturally drift toward whatever captures our first attention.
Can I encourage you with something practical?
Don’t start by trying to create the perfect morning routine.
Start with five minutes.
Five intentional minutes.
Open your Bible.
Read a few verses.
Pray about what you just read.
Then simply sit quietly before the Lord.
Those first five minutes become an invitation for God to shape everything that follows.
And here’s something I’ve discovered over the years.
The goal isn’t to check “quiet time” off your list.
The goal is to carry His presence with you after you close your Bible.
The first five minutes aren’t the finish line.
They’re the starting line.
Listen to one more promise.
Lamentations 3:22–23 – “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.”
Every morning…
God’s mercies are new.
Not just on Mondays.
Not just when you’ve had a good week.
Every morning.
So tomorrow…
before the notifications…
before the headlines…
before the world begins asking for your attention…
give your first few moments to Jesus.
Because whoever gets the first five minutes of your morning…
often shapes the direction of your heart for the rest of your day.
And that’s a habit worth building, one morning at a time.
____________
Can I share another observation with you?
I’ve noticed that the first few minutes of the morning are usually the only minutes we actually control.
After that…
the phone starts ringing.
The emails begin.
Someone needs us.
The schedule takes over.
That’s why those first few moments are so important. They’re not about getting more done. They’re about deciding who will shape your heart before the rest of the world starts speaking.
Let me talk to a few friends who might be watching today.
THE ANXIOUS WATCHER
Maybe you’ve been carrying a lot of anxiety lately.
You wake up thinking about everything that could go wrong before your feet even touch the floor.
Can I encourage you?
Before you let the news tell you what’s happening in the world…
let God’s Word remind you Who is still on the throne.
Five quiet minutes with Jesus won’t remove every problem.
But they will remind you that you’re not facing those problems alone.
THE PROPHECY BURNOUT VIEWER
Maybe you’ve spent years studying prophecy.
You know the signs.
You understand the timeline.
But somewhere along the way…
you realized you knew more about current events than you did about sitting quietly with Jesus.
Can I encourage you?
Prophecy should never replace intimacy.
Its purpose is to lead us back to the One who promised He is coming again.
The healthiest prophetic life always begins with a healthy devotional life.
THE SILENT WATCHER
And maybe you’re the silent watcher.
You’ve been here for a long time.
You rarely comment.
You simply listen.
You’re trying to grow quietly.
Can I encourage you today?
God sees quiet faithfulness.
No one else may know you’re opening your Bible each morning…
but your Father does.
Those unseen moments matter more than you realize.
Three different mornings.
Three different struggles.
One simple decision.
Who gets the first five minutes?
The beautiful thing is…
you don’t have to change your entire life tomorrow.
You only have to choose who speaks first.
Because when God becomes the first voice you hear…
His truth has a way of staying with you long after you’ve closed your Bible.
____________
Now that we’ve decided who gets the first five minutes of our morning, let’s talk about what happens when we open the Bible.
Because Scripture was never meant to be a silent exercise.
God Never Asked You to Read Alone.
____________
STEP 3 – God Never Asked You to Read Alone
Can I ask you something?
Have you ever been reading your Bible…
and for some reason, you couldn’t move past one verse?
You read it once.
Then again.
Then a third time.
Something inside you kept saying,
“Read that again.”
Can I encourage you?
Maybe that wasn’t just your imagination.
Maybe Jesus was slowing you down because He had something He wanted you to hear.
I think sometimes we approach the Bible as if we’re studying for an exam.
We read our chapter.
We check the box.
We move on.
But Scripture was never meant to become another assignment.
It’s an invitation.
An invitation to sit at the feet of Jesus.
That’s one of my favorite pictures in all of Scripture.
Luke 10:39 – “And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard His word.”
I love that verse.
Notice what Mary was doing.
She wasn’t trying to impress Jesus.
She wasn’t rushing through a reading plan.
She wasn’t worried about how many verses she had finished.
She simply sat…
and listened.
Can I ask you another question?
What if that’s still Jesus’ invitation today?
What if tomorrow morning…
when you open your Bible…
you’re not opening a book by yourself?
What if you’re sitting down with the Author?
Jesus said something remarkable.
John 10:27 – “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
Now, let’s be careful here.
Jesus will never contradict His written Word.
That’s why we begin with Scripture.
But have you ever noticed…
sometimes a verse seems to shine a little brighter than the others?
Or you suddenly remember someone you need to pray for.
Or you feel impressed to forgive someone.
Or to make a phone call.
Or to read the next paragraph one more time.
Those gentle moments matter.
I don’t believe they’re interruptions.
I believe they’re invitations.
Sometimes Jesus teaches us…
not by giving us new Scripture…
but by helping us notice the Scripture that’s already in front of us.
The psalmist prayed one of the most beautiful prayers in the Bible.
Psalm 119:18 – “Open you my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.”
I find myself praying that often.
“Lord…
don’t let me just read these words.
Help me see what You want me to see today.”
Can I encourage you with something practical?
Before you read tomorrow morning…
pause for just a few seconds.
Take a deep breath.
Then simply pray,
“Jesus…
I’m here.
Please teach me today.
Help me understand what You want me to see.”
That’s not a complicated prayer.
But it changes how you approach God’s Word.
You’re no longer reading alone.
You’re expecting a conversation.
Not because you’re looking for some mysterious experience…
but because you’re spending time with Someone who loves you.
The apostle James reminds us of something beautiful.
James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.”
Did you notice that?
God delights in giving wisdom.
He’s not reluctant.
He’s not distant.
He’s not waiting for you to become a Bible scholar before He teaches you.
He’s inviting you to ask.
To listen.
To learn.
One verse at a time.
One morning at a time.
And honestly…
some of the sweetest moments I’ve ever experienced with the Lord weren’t when I finished an entire chapter.
They happened when I spent ten minutes with one verse because I couldn’t get past it.
I wasn’t behind.
I wasn’t stuck.
I was sitting at the feet of Jesus.
That’s the invitation.
Don’t measure your quiet time by how many pages you covered.
Measure it by whether you spent time with Him.
Because every morning…
when you open your Bible…
you are never reading alone.
Jesus is waiting to meet you there.
____________
Can I share something I’ve noticed after spending years sitting with Jesus in His Word?
God rarely shouts.
Most of the time…
He whispers.
Not with an audible voice…
but through His Word.
Sometimes it’s a verse you can’t seem to move past.
Sometimes it’s a sentence you’ve read dozens of times, and suddenly it feels like you’re reading it for the very first time.
Sometimes it’s a quiet thought that gently says,
“Read that again.”
Those moments have become some of the sweetest parts of my mornings with Jesus.
Let me speak to a few friends who may be watching today.
THE HUNGRY DISCIPLE
Maybe you’re hungry to know God’s Word more deeply.
You’ve wondered why some mornings you breeze through a chapter…
and other mornings you spend fifteen minutes on one verse.
Can I encourage you?
Don’t rush past those moments.
If one verse keeps drawing your attention, don’t assume you’re falling behind.
Maybe Jesus is inviting you to stay there a little longer.
Sometimes one verse lived is far more valuable than three chapters finished.
THE QUESTIONER
Maybe you’re the kind of person who asks a lot of questions.
“Lord… what does this mean?”
“Why did You include this here?”
“How does this apply to my life?”
Can I encourage you?
Those aren’t interruptions to your Bible study.
They’re often the beginning of a conversation.
God isn’t intimidated by sincere questions.
In fact, asking them slows us down enough to listen.
Sometimes understanding grows one question at a time.
THE ISOLATED REMNANT BELIEVER
Maybe you’ve felt spiritually alone for a long time.
You don’t have many people around you who share your hunger for God’s Word.
Some mornings it feels like it’s just you.
Friend…
it isn’t just you.
Every time you open your Bible, you’re meeting with the Author Himself.
You may be sitting alone in a room…
but you’re never reading alone.
Jesus has been there long before you opened the first page.
Three different people.
Three different experiences.
One faithful Savior.
Tomorrow morning, don’t measure your quiet time by how much you accomplish.
Pay attention instead.
What verse keeps drawing your heart?
What thought keeps returning?
What invitation is Jesus placing gently before you?
Sometimes the most meaningful part of your Bible reading isn’t finishing the chapter.
It’s recognizing that Someone has been walking through every verse with you all along.
____________
Now that we’ve learned we’re never reading God’s Word alone, there’s one more habit that can help us remember what He’s teaching us.
Because conversations with Jesus are too precious to leave only to our memory.
Let’s talk about why we should trust our journal more than our memory.
____________
STORY OF AWAKENING
Can I tell YOU about someone?
Meet Chris, a 38-year-old art director with a gentle demeanor, known for his quirky bow ties and a burgeoning collection of rare books. His passion for design is only matched by his love for contemplative, early-morning walks. But beneath his calm exterior, Chris wrestles with a dragon—a profound sense of isolation. Despite his successful career and online followers, he finds himself yearning for genuine connection and a place where he can share his faith and creativity.
The pews of the local church are familiar to Chris, yet they symbolize his silent battle. He attends service every Sunday, sits in the back row, and slips out as soon as the benediction is pronounced. He’s surrounded by a community, yet feels invisible within it. The question that haunts him every night is simple yet profound: “How do I find my place among these people?”
The turning point arrives during a community picnic. Chris, initially standing on the periphery, is approached by Mia, the church’s vibrant outreach coordinator, known for her infectious laugh and an uncanny ability to remember every member’s birthday. She invites him to contribute a design for an upcoming charity event. In that moment, something shifts. Chris sees an opportunity, a bridge between his solitary existence and the community he longs to be part of.
Empowered by Mia’s genuine interest and armed with his unique skill set, Chris steps forward. His design for the event isn’t just noticed; it’s celebrated. He feels a ripple of change as he’s introduced to the congregation, not as a spectator, but as a contributing member whose talents bring beauty and connection to the church family.
As Chris becomes more involved, volunteering his skills and joining a small group, the details of his life weave into the fabric of the community. The once overwhelming dragon of isolation shrinks back as he forms meaningful relationships. Church members begin to wear the bow ties he designs, and his love for rare books leads to the start of a church library.
The church, once a product in Chris’s life—static and unchanging—becomes the setting where his story unfolds. He discovers that it’s not the rows of seats that define his church experience, but the shared laughter, the collaborative projects, the prayers, and the support he both gives and receives. The church becomes his home, the congregation his family, and his talents a tool to slay the dragon of loneliness.
In his transformation, Chris embodies the truth that church is more than a place to go; it’s a place to belong. For others like him, the message is clear: there is a spot within the church where every talent, personality, and heart can find a home, transforming not only their own lives but the community around them.
____________
Maybe today’s Story of Awakening wasn’t actually for YOU.
Maybe…
it was for the person God quietly placed on YOUR heart.
The friend…
who keeps saying,
“I know I should read my Bible…”
but never seems to begin.
The believer…
who loves Jesus…
but feels guilty because every attempt at a quiet time turns into another abandoned plan.
The new Christian…
who doesn’t know where to start.
The parent…
who longs to help their children love God’s Word…
but isn’t sure how.
The husband or wife…
who has quietly drifted from spending time with the Lord…
one busy morning at a time.
Did someone come to mind?
Because if they did…
maybe today’s conversation wasn’t just meant to encourage YOU.
Maybe it was meant to reach them too.
If someone came to mind while hearing today’s Story of Awakening…
send them this video.
You never know how God might use
one invitation…
one open Bible…
or one quiet morning…
to begin changing a life forever.
____________
STEP 4 – Don’t Trust Your Memory – Trust Your Journal?
Can I ask you a question?
Have you ever had one of those moments when you were absolutely certain God showed you something in Scripture…
and then two days later…
you couldn’t remember exactly what it was?
You remembered the feeling.
You remembered that it was important.
But the details had slipped away.
Honestly?
That’s happened to me more times than I can count.
And over the years, I’ve learned something that completely changed my quiet time.
Don’t trust your memory.
Trust your journal.
Can I encourage you with something?
Throughout the Bible, God repeatedly tells His people to remember.
And one of the ways they remembered…
was by writing things down.
Listen to what the Lord told the prophet Habakkuk.
Habakkuk 2:2 – “And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that reads it.”
I love that.
Write the vision.
God knew something about us.
He knew we forget.
Life gets busy.
Days become weeks.
Conversations fade.
But words written down have a way of bringing us back to what God was saying.
Moses understood this too.
After God gave Israel His commandments, He said,
Deuteronomy 6:6–9 – “And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: And you shalt teach them diligently unto your children, and shalt talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shalt bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shalt write them upon the posts of your house, and on your gates.”
Did you notice how intentional that is?
Teach them.
Talk about them.
Remember them.
Write them.
God wasn’t asking His people to collect information.
He was helping them build a life that continually remembered Him.
Can I tell you something I do almost every morning?
When I’m spending time with Jesus, I keep a journal close by.
Not because I’m trying to write a book.
Not because every thought is profound.
But because when a verse lingers…
when a word catches my attention…
or when the Lord gently impresses something on my heart…
I don’t want to lose that conversation.
Sometimes I write one sentence.
Sometimes I write one question.
Sometimes it’s simply a Scripture reference with one word beside it.
That’s enough.
Because the purpose isn’t to fill pages.
The purpose is to remember what Jesus is teaching me.
David prayed these beautiful words.
Psalm 119:11 – “Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”
How do we begin hiding God’s Word in our hearts?
We slow down long enough to notice it.
We think about it.
We write it.
We return to it.
Can I encourage you with a simple idea?
Tomorrow morning…
place a notebook beside your Bible.
It doesn’t have to be beautiful.
It doesn’t have to be expensive.
It doesn’t even have to be organized.
Just leave yourself a place to capture the conversation.
Write the verse that stood out.
Write the question you’re asking.
Write the prayer that came to your heart.
Write the one step of obedience you don’t want to forget.
Years from now…
those pages won’t simply become journal entries.
They’ll become a testimony.
You’ll be able to look back and see how faithfully God has been leading you all along.
And isn’t that encouraging?
Sometimes we wonder if God has been speaking.
Then we open an old journal…
and suddenly we remember.
The prayer He answered.
The Scripture He used.
The season He carried us through.
Friend…
don’t trust your memory alone.
God has been telling His people to remember for thousands of years.
One of the simplest ways we can obey that invitation…
is to write it down.
Because conversations with Jesus are too precious to lose.
And tomorrow’s encouragement may very well be found in something He whispered to your heart today.
____________
Can I share something I’ve noticed over the years?
The moments that changed my walk with God weren’t always the dramatic ones.
More often than not…
they were the quiet ones.
A single verse.
A simple prayer.
One gentle thought that came while I was reading Scripture.
The problem is… those moments are easy to forget.
Life moves quickly.
Tomorrow brings new responsibilities.
Next week brings different challenges.
That’s why I keep saying…
don’t trust your memory—trust your journal.
Let me speak to a few friends who may be watching today.
THE QUESTIONER
Maybe you’re someone who asks a lot of questions while reading the Bible.
You underline verses.
You wonder what they mean.
You think about them throughout the day.
Can I encourage you?
Write your questions down.
Not because you need all the answers today…
but because six months from now, you’ll be amazed at how many of those questions God has already answered through His Word.
Sometimes your journal becomes a record of God’s faithfulness long before you realize it.
THE ENCOURAGER
Maybe God has given you a heart for encouraging others.
Here’s something beautiful.
The encouragement you share tomorrow often begins with something God whispered to you today.
There have been times when I opened an old journal and found exactly the verse I needed for that season.
What felt like an ordinary morning became an extraordinary reminder that God had been preparing me long before I knew I would need it.
Nothing is wasted when God is writing your story.
THE SKEPTICAL OBSERVER
And maybe you’re thinking…
“I’m just not a journal person.”
Can I encourage you?
Neither is this about keeping a diary.
It’s about remembering.
One sentence is enough.
One verse is enough.
One prayer is enough.
Don’t make journaling another burden.
Make it a place where you preserve your conversations with Jesus.
Three different people.
Three different personalities.
One simple habit.
Write it down.
Not because God will forget what He said…
but because we often do.
Years from now, those pages won’t simply remind you of what you read.
They’ll remind you of how faithfully Jesus walked with you through every season of your life.
And that may become one of the greatest testimonies you’ll ever own.
____________
We’ve learned how to come to Jesus, give Him our first moments, listen as we read His Word, and remember what He’s teaching us.
Now there’s one final step.
Because every conversation with Jesus is meant to change the way we live.
Let’s discover why one small step is better than one more chapter.
____________
STEP 5 – One Small Step Is Better Than One More Chapter
Can I ask you one final question?
Have you ever finished reading an entire chapter of the Bible…
closed it…
and five minutes later realized you couldn’t remember what you just read?
I know I have.
And honestly?
I don’t think Jesus ever intended Bible reading to become a race.
Sometimes we think spiritual maturity looks like reading more chapters…
checking off another reading plan…
or finishing the Bible in a year.
Those are all wonderful goals.
But can I encourage you with something?
God isn’t looking for readers.
He’s looking for followers.
There’s a difference.
Jesus didn’t simply say,
“Listen to My words.”
He said,
Matthew 7:24 – “Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.”
Did you notice that?
The wise man wasn’t wise because he heard.
He was wise because he did what Jesus said.
That’s where transformation begins.
Not when we collect more information…
but when we respond to what we’ve already been given.
Can I ask you something?
What if tomorrow morning you only read five verses…
but you lived every one of them?
Wouldn’t that be better than reading five chapters you’ll never think about again?
I think that’s exactly what James was talking about.
Listen carefully.
“James 1:22–25 KJV
But be you doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the Word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was… But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
James paints such a vivid picture.
Imagine looking into a mirror…
seeing exactly what needs attention…
then walking away as though you never looked.
That’s what happens when we read God’s Word without responding to it.
Scripture wasn’t given simply to inform us.
It was given to transform us.
So here’s something I’ve practiced for years, and I want to encourage you to try it.
Before you close your Bible each morning, ask one simple question:
“Jesus, what is one thing You want me to live today?”
Not ten things.
One.
Maybe it’s calling someone you’ve been avoiding.
Maybe it’s forgiving someone.
Maybe it’s choosing gratitude instead of complaining.
Maybe it’s encouraging a friend.
Maybe it’s trusting God with something you’ve been carrying alone.
Whatever it is…
don’t rush past it.
That one step may become the most important part of your quiet time.
Jesus said,
John 13:17 – “If you know these things, happy are you if you do them.”
I love that verse.
Notice where the blessing is found.
Not simply in knowing.
In doing.
Knowledge is a wonderful gift.
But obedience changes us.
Can I encourage you with one final thought?
Don’t measure your quiet time by how many chapters you finished.
Measure it by whether you walked away loving Jesus more…
and following Him more closely.
One verse obeyed…
One prayer sincerely prayed…
One conversation remembered…
One act of obedience completed…
Those small steps, repeated day after day, quietly shape a lifetime of faithfulness.
That’s how daily Bible reading and prayer become more than a habit.
They become a relationship.
And every morning, as you open God’s Word, remember this:
Jesus isn’t asking you to do everything today.
He’s simply inviting you to take the next faithful step.
Because one small step of obedience…
is always better than one more chapter left unchanged.
____________
Can I leave you with one final observation?
I’ve noticed that the Christians who quietly influence the people around them aren’t usually the ones who can quote the most verses.
They’re the ones who live them.
You can almost see Jesus in the way they speak.
In the way they forgive.
In the way they remain calm when everyone else is anxious.
That kind of faith isn’t built overnight.
It’s built one small act of obedience at a time.
Let me encourage a few friends who may be watching today.
THE SEEKER
Maybe you’re just beginning your journey with Jesus.
Everything feels new.
Sometimes even overwhelming.
Can I encourage you?
Don’t worry about becoming a mature Christian this week.
Just live the one thing God showed you today.
One kind word.
One honest prayer.
One act of forgiveness.
One step is enough.
That’s how every disciple begins.
THE LUKEWARM CHRISTIAN WAKING UP
Maybe you’ve realized your faith has become more routine than relationship.
You’re waking up again.
You want something deeper.
Can I encourage you?
You don’t need another emotional moment.
You need one act of obedience.
Revival doesn’t usually begin with a crowd.
It often begins with one believer quietly saying,
“Yes, Lord.”
THE DEBATE WATCHER
Maybe you enjoy studying Scripture.
You like comparing viewpoints.
You appreciate healthy discussion.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
But remember…
the goal of Bible study isn’t winning an argument.
It’s becoming more like Jesus.
People are rarely transformed because we proved a point.
They’re transformed because they experienced His love through us.
Three different people.
Three different places on the journey.
One invitation.
Live what you’ve learned.
Tomorrow morning, don’t ask,
“How many chapters should I read?”
Instead ask,
“Jesus…what’s one thing You want me to do today?”
Then do it.
Because that’s where spiritual growth becomes visible.
Not when we simply know God’s Word…
but when God’s Word begins shaping the way we live.
One faithful step.
One ordinary day.
One life becoming a little more like Jesus.
That’s how quiet mornings become transformed lives.
____________
We’ve built a simple daily rhythm together—from opening God’s Word to living it each day.
Now I’d love to share one practical tool that has shaped my own morning Bible study for years and helped me stay consistent.
Let’s look at Today’s Toolkit.
____________
TODAY’S TOOLKIT – The New Narrated Study Bible (NNSB) Method
Before we finish today’s lesson…
I’d love to share the simple method I’ve used for years to turn Bible reading into a daily conversation with Jesus.
I call it The New Narrated Study Bible Method.
When I was ten years old, I believe God placed an assignment on my heart that has shaped the rest of my life—to help people understand His Word.
That journey eventually became the New Narrated Study Bible.
But honestly…
the method is much simpler than the name.
Tomorrow morning, don’t try to read everything.
Instead, begin with ten 3×5 cards.
Write the Scripture word for word.
As you slowly write each verse, resist the temptation to rush ahead.
You’re not trying to finish a chapter.
You’re learning to sit at the feet of Jesus.
And as you’re writing…
pay attention.
Does one verse seem to hold your attention?
Does one phrase keep drawing you back?
Does a gentle thought come to your mind?
Write that down on a separate card or in your journal.
Those quiet impressions are often where your conversation with Jesus begins.
I’ve written thousands of these cards over the years.
Not because I was trying to complete a project…
but because I wanted God’s Word to become part of my daily life.
Before long, you’ll have your own stack of Scripture cards.
Carry them with you.
Read them again while you’re waiting in line.
Pray through them during the day.
Share them with someone who needs encouragement.
The goal isn’t simply to finish reading the Bible.
The goal is to let God’s Word become part of who you are…
one faithful morning at a time.
Before we move on…
I’d like to leave you with one thought.
Remember this…
Daily Bible reading isn’t about finishing more chapters. It’s about meeting with Jesus, listening to His voice through His Word, and taking one faithful step of obedience each day. That’s how a daily habit becomes a lifelong walk with God.
Meet with Jesus.
Give Him your first moments.
Listen.
Remember.
Obey.
Bible reading isn’t a task to complete – it’s a relationship to cultivate.
____________
Before we wrap…
If today’s message strengthened YOUR confidence in Christ…
comment “READY.”
I read those comments every week,
and I love seeing believers encourage one another.
And before YOU leave…
tell me one step YOU’RE going to take this week.
Maybe it’s opening your Bible tomorrow morning.
Maybe it’s talking with Jesus for the first time in a long time.
Maybe it’s sharing the Gospel with someone.
Or maybe it’s simply choosing obedience in one area of YOUR life.
Because here at Guardians of Biblical Truth…
we believe Scripture becomes transformation one step at a time.
____________
WRAP UP – From Information to Transformation
As we come to the end of today’s conversation…
let’s remember where we began.
YOU came here asking one simple question:
“How do I build a daily Bible reading and prayer habit that draws me closer to God?”
And maybe you expected the answer to be another reading plan…
another checklist…
or another promise that this time you’ll finally stay consistent.
But Scripture showed us something different.
This journey doesn’t begin with doing more.
It begins with meeting Someone.
One quiet moment.
One open Bible.
One honest prayer.
Day after day.
We discovered that time with God doesn’t have to be complicated.
That the first few minutes of your morning matter.
That Jesus never intended for you to read His Word without His presence.
That some of the most important things He speaks are worth writing down.
And that one faithful step…
taken every day…
will always take you farther than one perfect day you’ll never repeat.
Can I encourage you?
Don’t measure today’s success by how many chapters you read.
Measure it by one question:
“Did I spend time with Jesus today?”
Because that’s where real transformation begins.
Not in performance.
In relationship.
One Scripture.
One Story.
One Step.
At a time.
____________
WHERE WE GO NEXT
Now let me show YOU where we’re headed next.
This wheel is our journey…
from simply reading Scripture…
to faithfully living it.
Today we completed the first spoke:
READ + PRAY Week.
Next time…
we begin our second challenge:
GATHER Week.
Because after you begin spending daily time with Jesus…
the next question naturally becomes…
“Who am I walking with?”
God never intended for His children
to grow in isolation.
In GATHER Week,
we’ll discover why biblical community
isn’t an optional part of the Christian life…
it’s one of God’s greatest gifts for helping us stay faithful,
encouraged,
and growing.
Every spoke builds on the one before it.
One week.
One habit.
One faithful step at a time.
Because reading God’s Word…
changes your heart.
But walking with God’s people…
helps you keep walking.
And that’s exactly
where our journey continues
next time.

GUARDIANS OF BIBLICAL TRUTH FORUM
This was a lot to take in…
And honestly…
it’s only the beginning.
Around here, we believe in Hope with Handles—
hope YOU can actually hold onto,
one faithful step at a time.
Because faith isn’t just something we believe…
it’s something we live.
____________
SCRIPTURE · STORY · STEP
That’s why we follow one simple rhythm:
SCRIPTURE • STORY • STEP.
Scripture tells us what God says.
Story helps God’s truth become personal.
Step is where faith becomes the way YOU actually live.
Because every checkpoint moves YOU from awareness to obedience, from belief to readiness, from saying “Amen” to living “Here I am, Lord.”
And that’s the journey we’re taking together.
One Scripture.
One Story.
One Step.
At a time.
____________

heal,
prepare,
and walk faithfully with God –
one step at a time.

____________
PRAYER OF FAITH
Before we go… if you don’t know Jesus,
or if you’ve drifted far from Him
and you want to come home…
pray this with me.
Put your hands together and repeat after me:
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
If you believe that, He is in your heart right now, and you shall be saved.
And if you want to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, pray this prayer…
Father, in Jesus’ name,
Thank You for Your Word. Help us not just hear it – but obey it. Forgive us. Cleanse us. We repent, and we turn from sin back to You. Give us discipline to follow through. Strengthen our habits, our choices, and our daily walk so we actually live what we believe. Produce fruit in us – real change, real holiness, real endurance. Renew our minds, fill us with Your Spirit, and make us ready – without fear and without compromise. We give You our yes.
Amen.
