Genuine Faith | Four Tests to See if Your Faith Is Genuine

Hello, welcome to Guardians of Biblical Truth. We’re embarking on a study crucial for both new believers and seasoned Christians: “Four Tests to See if Your Faith Is Genuine.” This topic is essential because self-examination, as mandated by the Bible, is different from self-doubt or self-condemnation. It’s about ensuring our faith aligns with what’s expected of a true believer—genuine faith—to inherit the kingdom of God.

1. Do You Read Your Bible Every Day?

Reading the Bible is foundational to genuine faith and being a follower of Christ. It’s God’s way of speaking directly to us, guiding us, and providing strength to overcome sin and temptation. Regular Bible reading enriches our faith and helps us discern God’s will. As Jesus said in John 8:31–32, continuing in His word is a hallmark of true discipleship.

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'” John 8:31-32 (NIV)

2. Do You Pray Every Day?

Prayer is the lifeline that connects us to God as a matter of genuine faith. It’s the means through which we find God’s solutions for our life challenges and stay in the center of His will. Prayer is not about changing God’s mind; it’s about aligning ourselves with His will. Remember, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6

3. Do You Faithfully Attend a Bible-Believing Church?

Regular church attendance is not about personal preferences or the charisma of the pastor. It’s about genuine faith demonstrating obedience to God and recognizing the church as the body of Christ. Hebrews 10:25 urges us not to neglect meeting together, emphasizing the importance of communal worship and mutual encouragement, especially as we see the Day approaching.

“Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)

4. Do you Pray for the Salvation of Your Family and Loved Ones?

A genuine Christian cannot be indifferent to the eternal destines of others. If we truly understand the gravity of salvation—as a matter of genuine faith—and the reality of heaven and hell, we’ll be burdened for the lost. This concern should manifest in fervent prayers for the unsaved, as our desire should align with God’s will—that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9).

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)

Conclusion: As a Matter of Genuine Faith

These four tests are not exhaustive, but they serve as a starting point for introspection. They help differentiate between mere religiousness and a right relationship with God. It’s crucial to regularly examine ourselves against these benchmarks to ensure our faith is authentic and aligned with God’s expectations. Remember, it’s not about what we do but about our relationship with Christ and how that manifests in our lives. Let’s commit to these practices, not just as rituals, but as expressions of our genuine faith in Christ.

Prayer for Salvation

Let’s close with a prayer for those seeking salvation. If you haven’t already, and you’re ready to make that commitment, repeat after me:

“Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I repent of my sins and invite You into my heart and life. I commit to following You as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.”

Thank you for joining this study. May you grow in your faith and be assured of your salvation in Christ.

In His Service,

Guardians of Biblical Truth
