Authentic Faith Examination | Assess Spiritual Journey in Four Steps

Greetings, dear readers. This is the Guardians of Biblical Truth, and today, we embark on a crucial journey of introspection and discovery. As believers, it’s essential to periodically assess the authenticity of our faith. This isn’t a quest to question God’s grace or our salvation, but rather a pursuit to ensure our walk with God is genuine and deeply rooted in His truth. Let’s explore four key tests based on biblical principles to help you discern the genuineness of your faith.

First Authentic Faith Examination: Engagement with God’s Word

Test Question: How deeply and consistently are you engaged with the Bible?

“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul” (Psalm 19:7). The Bible is not just a historical document or a moral guide; it is the living Word of God, actively engaging and transforming us. A genuine faith is often evident in how we interact with Scripture. Do you turn to the Bible in times of doubt and seek its wisdom in times of decision-making? Does your life reflect the teachings of Jesus, and do you find joy and peace in His promises?

In John 8:31-32, Jesus emphasized the importance of abiding in His Word as a mark of true discipleship. Ask yourself: Is my daily life a reflection of my engagement with the Bible? Am I merely a listener, or do I put into practice what l learn?

John 8:31-32 (NIV) reads: 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Second Authentic Faith Examination: A Life of Prayer

Test Question: What role does prayer play in your everyday life?

Prayer is the heartbeat of a believer’s life, a vital communication channel with our Heavenly Father. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, when Paul says, “pray without ceasing,” he is calling for a life that is constantly in communion with God. This doesn’t mean non-stop prayer but living with an ongoing awareness of God’s presence.

Reflect on your prayer life: Do you pray only in times of need, or do you maintain a constant dialogue with God? Are your prayers filled with your requests, or do they also reflect thanksgiving and praise? Remember, prayer is not about changing God’s will but aligning ourselves with His divine plan.

Third Authentic Faith Examination: Fellowship with Believers

Test Question: How actively do you participate in a church community?

The Bible emphasizes the importance of fellowship among believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 underscores the necessity of gathering together for mutual encouragement and growth. The church is where we find spiritual nourishment, accountability, and the opportunity to use our gifts for God’s glory.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) reads: 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Ask yourself: Am I a passive attendee or an active participant in my church community? Do I seek to build others up, or do I isolate myself from fellowship? Remember, the church is not a building; it’s a community of believers united in Christ.

Fourth Authentic Faith Examination: Concern for the Lost

Test Question: How deeply does the salvation of others concern you?

A transformed heart is often burdened for those who have not yet experienced the grace of God. Mark 16:15 commissions us to share the Good News with the world. If your faith is genuine, there should be an evident concern for those who are spiritually lost.

Mark 16:15 (NIV) reads: 15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Reflect on this: Do you pray for and actively seek opportunities to share the Gospel? Are you concerned about the eternal destiny of your family, friends, and even strangers? Remember, evangelism is not just the responsibility of pastors and missionaries; it’s the call of every believer.

Conclusion: Authentic Faith Examination

This process of self-examination is crucial in our spiritual journey. It’s not a one-time event but a continuous practice. As you reflect on these areas, be honest with yourself and with God. Where you find shortcomings, see them as opportunities for growth.

We encourage you to pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in your self-authentic faith examination. Remember, our goal is not to achieve perfection but to grow in our relationship with God and to be conformed more into the image of Christ.

As you reflect on this authentic faith examination, remember that your journey with Christ is unique. God’s grace is sufficient for our weaknesses, and His strength is made perfect in our shortcomings. Let this be an opportunity for growth, encouragement, and a deeper commitment to your faith.

May this journey of self-examination lead you to a richer, more fulfilling walk with God. Keep pressing forward, growing in faith, hope, and love, and always remember that you are a cherished child of God, called to a life of purpose and meaning.

God bless you on this journey of faith. Remember, we are all works in progress, and it’s by God’s grace that we grow and mature in our faith. Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV) reads: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Stay blessed and encouraged in your walk with the Lord.

In His Service,

Guardians of Biblical Truth
